A few weeks ago we were invited to try a new restaurant in Maplewood called Sprout. It is directly across the street from one of our favorite restaurants in all of New Jersey (you know you love Arturo’s too), so we figured why not give it a try! The menu looked so interesting and healthy. Maplewood was actually having a street fair the day we went, so the restaurant was PACKED! I immediately fell in love with all of the wood accents inside. I was so impressed by the clean decor. I couldn’t wait to try the food!
After reviewing the menu, I decided to order a Shuka + Spice Bowl, because I LOVE falafel, and a house-made mint lemonade (I am a lemonade-aholic). E ordered a Chicken and Quinoa Soup and one of the Fall bowl specials, the Forager Bowl, which was packed with southwestern chicken, sweet potatoes, kale and a sweet and smokey vinaigrette. E ate the soup while we waiting for our bowls to be ready. It was warm and had big chunks of chicken in it. E really liked it!
The bowls were made to order, and then (after I photographed them, of course) we had them chopped up! Chopping up the bowls allowed for you to get a little bit of everything in each bite. It made eating so much easier! We both really loved how flavorful the bowls were. Each ingredient served a purpose. My favorite part of my bowl was the tzatziki vinaigrette. It added a nice richness to the dish. E really loved the smokiness of the chicken paired with the sweetness of the sweet potatoes. Overall, we were really impressed!
If you work in the area you can order online and pickup! Isn’t that great? I love how convenient they make it! Next time we are in Maplewood and looking for a quick and healthy lunch option we will definitely be stopping into Sprout!
