Lunch at Main House BBQ in Brooklyn

A few weekends ago, we headed deep into Brooklyn (Mill Basin, to be exact) to have lunch at a kosher BBQ joint I had been hearing A LOT about, called Main House BBQ. Friends had been raving about it for months! So when the owner reached out and invited me and my family for a meal, we could not say no!

If you are a long time reader of What’s For Dinner Esq., you know that I only eat kosher meat. As a result, I almost never get to eat kosher BBQ since there are no kosher BBQ restaurants near where I live. So this was definitely a TREAT!

After a quick pit stop in NYC to see a friend, we headed over the bridge and into Brooklyn! We arrived at Main House just after the lunch rush and immediately pulled into their parking lot. Yes. They have a parking lot! LIFE CHANGING. We opened the door, and the smell of meat just hit us in the face. HOLY COW! The smoke and the brisket and everything smelled AMAZING. I could not wait to sit and order.

After a few minutes of reviewing the menu and planning out our meal (we wanted to be strategic about our selections), E and I placed our order. It was going to be a lot. Thankfully, we didn’t eat much that morning…

First, we ordered some chicken fingers for Nathan. That way he didn’t go all hangry on us. They arrived really quickly, and they came with a variety of sauces. Nathan is OBSESSED with dipping things into sauce, so he was set!

We ordered the Smoked Chicken Wings as an appetizer for ourselves. What comes next is a bold statement, but these wings were THE BEST WINGS I HAVE EVER HAD. They were smokey and crispy and tender. If I had a never-ending plate of these wings for lunch, I would have been one happy woman. I was sad when we finished them. I was sad I had to split them with E. Honestly, I almost ordered another plate of them! Thankfully, we had even more exciting things coming.

In between the appetizer and main course, the owner sent out some of their fries for us as a “palate cleanser.” We had the Texas Fries and the Insane Fries. Both were fried to perfection and were super crispy. The Texas Fries had pulled brisket on top. OH MAN. It was hard not to eat them all before our mains arrived.

For our mains, E ordered the Main House Fried Chicken Sandwich, and I ordered the Smoked Mixed Platter with Brisket and Pastrami. E really loved the fried chicken sandwich. The chicken was crispy, juicy, and tender. E thought the pretzel bun was a really nice touch, too, and the owner told us that it was a recent new addition to the menu. The house sauce added a nice touch of extra flavor and a hint of spicy heat, too.

When my Smoked Mixed Platter arrived, I was a little overwhelmed by how much meat was on the plate. It all looked and smelled so.freaking.good. I dug into the pastrami first. I am such a sucker for a pastrami sandwich. Let me tell you, this pastrami is ENTIRELY different than your neighborhood deli pastrami. In a good way. It is smokey and tender, and yet, it also has a little texture to it. While I loved the pastrami, the CLEAR WINNER for me was the brisket. It LITERALLY melts in your mouth. E’s favorite between the two was the pastrami. Just proves the old saying, different strokes, for different folks!

To finish off the meal, we ordered Fried Oreos with some non-dairy chocolate ice cream. Because, WHY NOT?! It was a very sweet ending to an outstanding meal. E and I talk about this lunch basically every day, and are counting down until we can go back. I am seriously craving some smoked wings and brisket!

If you live in or are visiting the Tristate area, and are looking for a decadent (and kosher) BBQ extravaganza, then you should DEFINITELY check out Main House BBQ! You will not regret it!

Thank you Main House BBQ for treating us to an amazing meal!
