I am just now FINALLY putting the finishing touches on Nora’s nursery. I definitely took my sweet time decorating her room. Unlike with Nathan’s nursery, I did not use a interior designer. I picked everything all by myself. That is why Nora is 1 year old and her room is not 100% done. I still have a few things to hang :-/ (this shelf and this hook rack).
Nora’s room was initially planned as an office. We painted the room Wythe Blue when we first moved in to the house, two and half years ago. While there is blue in the color name, the paint is definitely more of a minty green. I selected the color because I found it calming. Just before finding out that I was pregnant with Nora, I was designing and decorating the office with the help of my favorite online interior design company, Havenly. When we found out I was pregnant, obviously all of those plans were put on hold. We left the office furniture as it was and waited…
Up until the day before I went back to work after my maternity leave, the room functioned as an office. We FINALLY moved all of the office furniture downstairs to our guest room with the help of our contractor and a few of his guys. We weren’t in a rush to move everything because Nora slept in our room, in her SNOO, until she was almost 6 months old.
Once the room was clear, E and I finally opened Nora’s crib and built it (surprisingly easy compared to Nathan’s crib), and opened her crib mattress. Her crib was the only piece of furniture in her room for a WHILE. We had some delayed shipping issues with her dresser and rocking chair, both from Joybird (don’t get me started). Once they finally arrived, in August, I started pulling the room together. The first piece I ordered for Nora’s room, after her crib, was this rainbow wall rug. I loved the natural colors, and I knew it would really complement the wall color.
Next, I selected this rug from Lorena Canals. The natural tones really paired well with Nora’s furniture. I love Lorena Canals rugs because they are machine washable! We had one in Nathan’s nursery and we DEFINITELY had to throw it in the wash more than a few times. Accidents happen!
The last piece of furniture that I purchased for Nora’s room was her bookcase. It took me a while to find one that I thought fit the room. I wanted one that had a midcentury modern feel but was really functional and could fit a lot of books. We LOVE books in our house. Here is a link to a few of our favorites. When I saw this bookcase on Crate&kids I knew it would be PERFECT. Also, it arrived 95% assembled. All we had to do was attach the legs! E and I HATE assembling furniture so that was a HUGE win.
Pulling all of the little pieces of decor for Nora’s room together has been so much fun! My favorite pieces in her room are the Aro face wall hangings (purchased from Merci Milo), the Elect Women knit bear from Estella, Nora’s name sign (a gift), and the personalized Hamsa that I recently added to her wall with her English and Hebrew names.
While I am calling Nora’s room her “nursery” it really is more of a little girl’s room. My hope is that she likes the design and decor enough to keep it this way for years to come!
