Easy Pizza Dough Calzones

Looking for a quick and easy dinner idea that your kids and you will love? Well, look no further! These pizza dough cheesy calzones come together in 20 minutes, and they are sure to be a crowd pleaser. Nathan, Nora, and E were all HUGE fans! They were SO cheesy!

Nathan and Nora split one, so we had one extra. It kept nicely in the refrigerator overnight. I sent them each a half calzone in their lunch the next day. I cannot wait to make these again soon! Scroll down for the full recipe.

Ingredients:

Trader Joe’s Pizza Dough, one bag

Tomato Sauce, 1 cup

Ricotta Cheese, 2 cups

Mozzarella Cheese, 1/2 cup and some extra to sprinkle on top of the ricotta mixture

Romano Cheese or Parmesan Cheese

Sea Salt, to taste

Fresh Ground Pepper, to taste

Garlic Powder, 1 teaspoon

Italian Seasoning or Dried Basil, 1 teaspoon

Egg, 1, to egg wash the top of each calzone

Directions:

  1. Take the pizza dough out of the fridge or freezer and allow to come up to room temperature.
  2. In a medium bowl, combine ricotta cheese, mozzarella cheese, sea salt, fresh ground pepper, garlic powder, and Italian seasoning.
  3. Once the dough is room temperature, sprinkle some flour onto your countertop. Separate the dough into four pieces.
  4. Roll each of the pieces out into circles.
  5. Add a heaping spoonful of sauce to each dough circle, then add a heaping spoonful of the ricotta cheese mixture.
  6. Top with a little mozzarella cheese.
  7. Close each of the calzones, and then pinch and fold the ends to make sure they are sealed.
  8. Brush each of the calzones with egg wash. Sprinkle a little more mozzarella cheese on top of each calzone.
  9. Bake according to the pizza dough instructions. Usually 8-10 minutes.
  10. Eat and enjoy immediately!
