My Fave Five – October 2021

October was a BUSY month! And it is Nathan’s favorite month (other than his birthday month) because of Halloween!

Time to share my five favorites from October 2021!

ONE

New Jersey Devils Game with E

My brothers surprised E with tickets to a New Jersey Devils game for his birthday. We hadn’t been to a sporting event in a LONG time due to COVID. We used to go to at least one Devils game a season. This was our first big indoor event. Thankfully, the Prudential Center requires that everyone who enters to show proof of vaccination. Most people did not wear masks while indoors (they were not required). We wore our masks 99.9% of the time. We only took them off to take the picture you see below! We had a great time at the game! It was weird being indoors, but it was nice too.

TWO

Homemade Apple Pie and Rainbow Challah

I FINALLY used all of the apples that we picked! I made this THIS Smitten Kitchen apple pie recipe. It was a process, but the results were worth it! The crust was buttery and delicious. The apples were crisp and sweet. It was the perfect fall bite. I also made rainbow challah in honor of the Noah torah portion. The kids loved it!

THREE

Surprise Beach Day

When it is 80 degrees in October, you GO TO THE BEACH! First, we picked up sandwiches at my favorite spot, Joe Leone’s. Seriously the best sandwiches in New Jersey. Then we headed to Jenkinson’s Boardwalk in Point Pleasant and popped right onto the beach from there. We found a nice quiet spot and ate our sandwiches while the kids played in the sand and searched for shells. We only stayed for an hour, but it was so refreshing and reinvigorating!

FOUR

Dinner at Sender’s Smoke Joint

A bunch of my high school friends live in the tri-state area. It has been a while since we have been able to see each other, so we decided to meet up in Teaneck, New Jersey for some kosher BBQ at Sender’s Smoke Joint! There were 6 of us, and we basically ordered one of everything on the menu. Check out their dinner menu HERE. Everything was DELICIOUS! I think my favorite thing we ordered was the loaded boneless wings. SO FREAKING GOOD. I dream about them. Seriously. If Sender’s delivered to Springfield, we would definitely be ordering from them on a weekly basis. E and I LOVE BBQ.

FIVE

Halloween

To say that Nathan is OBSESSED with Halloween would be an understatement. He looks forward to it all year long and is constantly talking about it. This year was Nathan’s first year really understanding and appreciating trick or treating. I am so happy we were able to safely trick or treat in our neighborhood. He had the BEST time! Nora loved it too, but I am not sure she gets it yet. Nathan and Nora each had two costumes. Nathan dressed up as Iron Man and Spiderman, while Nora dressed up as Skye from Paw Patrol and Ariel from The Little Mermaid. We went big this year!
