Nathan’s Buzz Lightyear Drive By Birthday Party

Last year, we celebrated Nathan’s 2nd birthday with a BIG party for our family and all of his friends at My Gym. Unfortunately, this year, due to COVID-19, we were unable to host a party like that. We decided, instead, to host a a drive by birthday party in his honor.

I asked him which theme he wanted, and he exclaimed, “BUZZ LIGHTYEAR,” so that is what we went with. All he wanted was a Buzz Lightyear cake. How could I not bake one for him? I bake him a cake every year, and this year was not going to be any different! I used this Buzz Lightyear cake mold, which was less than $10. Even if I never use it again, it was worth buying just for the look on his face when he saw his cake. My Buzz Lightyear cake was NOT pretty. Let’s just say, it is a good thing I didn’t try to become a pastry chef. Nathan loved it anyway!

I went a LITTLE overboard on ordering decorations from Party City for the party. I think I ordered at least one of everything from their Toy Story collection! They had so many great pieces. I just couldn’t resist. While I ordered a few single balloons from Party City, I decided to do something extra special for Nathan and ordered him a personalized balloon display from Dream Factory Balloons. They were so great to work with! I ordered the balloons over the phone a month in advance and they delivered them straight to my door the day before the party!

My parents even surprised Nathan with Buzz Lightyear and Woody cardboard cutouts. He LOVED them so much, and they added so much to the drive by display! We sat at our table for two hours while our family and Nathan’s friends drove by to wish him a “HAPPY BIRTHDAY!” He reveled in all of the attention!

We handed out a Toy Story color and sticker book, Entenmann’s Little Bites, and a mini water bottle to all of Nathan’s friends. Everything was individually packaged and sealed for safety reasons. Our little giveaways were a BIG HIT!

If you are looking to celebrate one of your children’s birthdays, but are struggling to come up with a safe way to do so, you should definitely consider hosting a drive by party! Nathan had an amazing time at his. He is still talking about it, and it took place over a month and a half ago!
