Coffee Stop at Palmer’s Sweetery and Cafe in Maplewood

One of my favorite cafes in the area is Palmer’s in Maplewood. Palmer’s opened while we were still living in South Orange, a little over three years ago. We stopped in once for dessert after lunch at Arturo’s (across the street and around the corner), and we fell in love. It was then that I started following them on Instagram. They are always posting pictures of their delectable treats and BEAUTIFUL custom cakes. I basically drool every time they post something new. It takes a whole lot of self control to not run over there every time!

Palmer’s is owned by a mother and daughter team, Kia Palmer and Mamma Palmer. They sell a selection of homemade sweet and savory pastries and quiches, in addition to a variety of coffee and other drinks. On Sundays they make donuts from scratch. Every Sunday they have a different flavor!

One day, while I was on maternity leave, Nora and I headed over to Palmer’s for a little afternoon treat. I ordered my faves: a decaf lavender latte with almond milk (because breastfeeding) and a salted corn muffin. The lavender latte smells OUT OF THIS WORLD. It is delicate and soft with a slight sweetness. It has the same calming effect on me as a cup of tea would. It paired so nicely with the salty sweetness of the salted corn muffin. The muffin was soft and moist on the inside. I always eat the bottom of the muffin first and then eat the muffin top. I am not sure why, but I like to save the salted top for last! Nora and I hung out for a little over an hour, just sipping on my latte and eating my muffin. It was so relaxing!

I have had several other items on their menu, including their cookies, their whoopie pies, their scones, and their quiche. All are delicious and have me coming back for more! And they are always experimenting and adding new things to the menu.

If you are in the area, or are looking for a new cafe to try, you should definitely check out Palmer’s. You will love it!
